As part of the physical activity program at the school, we decided to be creative and give two of our students the opportunity to try skiing. We were of course unsure as to how this would go, but as keen winter sports enthusiasts, myself and my Senior Learning Support Assistant, Callum thought that we should at least give students the opportunity to experience a winter environment.
We have been totally blow away by how much both Jack and Robert have taken to skiing.
Robert just loves the snow and having it all around him when at the snow centre can be a little distracting for him. Robert also particularly likes the big red stop buttons for the lifts! He enjoys throwing the snow high into the air and watching it fall, and he does actually learn to ski as well!
Jack is very much a people person, so this was another opportunity for him to meet new people, namely their instructor Chris. Jack has difficulty staying upright on his own two feet let alone on skis, but luckily for Jack gravity works in his favour when he’s on the slope. Right from the start Jack’s focus and determination was fantastic to see, and of course he wanted to go right from the top as soon as possible.
Both students have made fantastic progress from skiing on the flat to being supported from top to bottom of the main slope. They both have great aspirations of making it to the Alps and are looking forward to further Great (Après Ski) Interaction opportunities.
