When Faye first moved into her home her parents bought her a cd player. However Faye paid no attention to it at all. Staff reflected on this and wondered whether Faye was not making the connection between her CDs, which she kept in her bedroom, and the CD player in the lounge. We supported Faye to move her CDs to the lounge, next to the CD player.
Faye then started to make the link between the CDs and the player and asked staff for Ricky Martin to be put on. As the music played staff noticed Faye was more alert, and was able to communicate more verbally. She wanted to engage with us and have us join in. She seemed so much happier.
Music has helped to reduce Faye’s anxiety at difficult times such as waiting for a new activity to begin or getting ready to go out.
Faye has also been singing along to songs with staff and we are discovering more about which are Faye’s favourite songs and which ones are best at particular times.
Overall music has helped to build the bond between Faye and her new staff team and we look forward to getting to know her better and supporting her the way she wants.
