So our Great Interactions day was organised to bring all of our Community Learning Facilitators (CLFs) together for some dynamic and thought provoking sessions to reflect on all the wonderful ways we already use the 10 key facilitation skills, but also a chance to consider what else we can do to improve our interactions and consequently, the outcomes for each young person we support.
- Create some story bags and umbrellas.
- Finding out from the Great Interactions team what other training is available so I can further my own development.
- Get the young peoples’ attention before starting a conversation.
- Think how one person can be more involved in his personal care.
- Start reflecting on my day more and improving my communication skills with the person I support. Reflect and progress.
- To create a sensory book specifically for one person’s likes.
- To create a bank of photos for one person that she can recognise for her communication.
- Aim to be more observant and respond accordingly.
- Use key words more. Use less elaborate sentences.
- To be more conscious of supporting rather than being a carer.
- Update one person’s communication profile & Schemes of Works using information carrying words information.
- I will look at how clearly I communicate. I will look more clearly at the environment that I communicate in. I will do communication profile for one person.
- More picture resources for someone
- Speak more slowly to people as they may be able to pick up more Information Carrying Words.
And why do we get excited about spending all this time reflecting? Because we know it really does make a difference to the young people we support, and their future lives- and how exciting is that!?
