This learning also created opportunities for lots more interactions with Barbara, as I could now share my new skills with her. It is important to Barbara that she is able to take part in the things that she loves - music is a big part of her life. Those that know Barbara know this only too well: she is the life and soul of any party and loves a good sing-a-long! Barbara likes nothing better than having a “sing off” with staff and wins most of the time! So, putting the music on the iPad gave the staff team greater opportunities to have many more of these fun-filled singing Great Interactions with Barbara.
I was also surprised at the fact that Barbara only needed me to demonstrate how to play the music on the iPad once. It was amazing how quickly she picked up the skills to use this technology and now regularly listens to music on “the player”.
Who knows where this may lead? It just goes to show that by taking the time to learn new skills myself, I was able to open up new opportunities and experiences for Barbara, in order for her to develop her skills.
