I was able to identify a builder, engineer and a supplier for the group and with the help of two very enthusiastic Community Learning Facilitators, the support from the Great Interactions fund and (after a few emails) a generous donation from LEGO we were away!!! And haven’t stopped building since!
The students have taken to the group and are very cooperative and honest when trying new builds. The CLF’s are able to step in and step out when needed and will soon be told by the students if they have put a brick in the wrong place.
Lego therapy is an amazing opportunity for students and for staff, Staff are able to support students to apply the skills they are learning in ‘Lego Club’ to a range of settings; we have seen the students confidence and peer engagement increase over such a short space of time.
Due to the success of the pilot group we are now in the planning stages of expanding the ‘Lego Club’ to include a range of abilities as well as applying Lego to social stories. We are also on the hunt for purple Lego to create a Macintyre ‘M’ for the building.
