We knew that Paul liked to watch the Grand Prix on TV, we had observed how he smiled and stayed focused. Reflecting on this was the spark that made Sue Farrant, our Senior Support Worker, come up with the idea of Bug Jam; a weekend festival for Volkswagen fanatics to show off their vintage classics and there is also a drag racing show. This was something that Paul had never done before, but it was building upon his enjoyment of the Grand Prix and we thought it might be ‘the next step’.
The sounds varied greatly from the crowd gasping at the speed of the cars, the band that was playing, the music coming from some of the cars/vans and most of all the noise the cars made when they raced along the circuit. You could feel the vibrations from all around and the noise travelled for miles. Paul in particular enjoyed the start of the race with the cars spinning off the starting line and going as fast as they could.
Paul has never done anything like this before but I’m pretty sure he will want to go again after seeing his smiles as we looked over the photos together.
