Meets the specifications of the MacIntyre role,
At a meet and greet with tenants and staff,
I find some serious and shy, others like fun and a laugh.
These first six weeks, I’ve really enjoyed,
Demonstrating me skills, for which I’ve been employed.
But at MacIntyre, things aren't the same,
And I’ll have to work hard to up my game.
The Cherriton Staff are second to none,
Well trained, proficient and supportive each one.
Great Interactions and Facilitation,
With e–learning modules all a fascination.
Identifying clips and the skills I’ll use,
Discussions with my mentor, with his unbiased views.
It all leads me to dwell on how I’ll positively impact,
On the people I’ll support, will I be a class act?
But I’ve learnt something new, “No matter what way you chew it,
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it.”
On a supportive visit to mum and dad,
I take along their son, how they love their lad.
Dad calls him “Boo” with affection, pats his head, strokes his cheek,
I bite my lip, look away, hope I don’t have to speak.
Mum calls for a kiss, he hugs and cuddles her too,
I wasn’t trained not to cry, and don’t need to, do you?
At first I’m uncomfortable, and feel I shouldn't be there,
But then neither would Sion, if I wasn’t there for his care.
So I relax and enjoy, watch and feel all their love,
Wipe a speck from me eye, look to Heaven above.
I feel honoured and privileged, aglow and serene,
Close my eyes so my teardrops, don’t intrude on this scene.
So thank you Tracey, Janet, Debbie, Alison, Elaine,
Pam, Shelagh and Craig, Fiona, Kath and Lorraine.
You’ve made me feel so welcome, a part of the team,
It couldn’t be bettered, not even in dream.
My first precious moments with Sion was sublime,
So I’ve penned these words and set them to rhyme.
And one last special tribute, I send MacIntyre,
Please give me many more memories before I retire.
