The Team Enterprise project challenges students to create and run their own business. The “Creations” Team began by experimenting with the design and production of hand made gift tags, which were packaged and sold at the schools “Winter Wonderland” Fair in December last year. Parents and Support Workers attended the event and were impressed by the groups’ hard work and the high quality of the finished product. The gift tags which were presented in packs of five were an instant success and quickly sold out, much to the delight of the students involved.
Encouraged by this initial success the team took advice from school resources manager and retired teacher Fran Sheppard who suggested that the Team might be able to mass produce high quality gift tags on a larger scale by using a dye cutting device. Inspired by this suggestion staff set to work supporting the students to explore their own creativity by assisting them to produce the basic framework of their tag design and then encouraging them to use their own creative skills to choose appropriate colour schemes, layouts and decoration arrangements within an agreed standard format. The students responded well to a creative and yet structured approach and quickly became confident enough to work with increasing independence within their structured remit to produce and package a variety of coloured flower and butterfly card and foam based gift tags which will be sold at the up and coming Mac Fest summer music fair.
Team members of “Creations” enjoy the calm repetitive nature of creating their gift tags and are in charge of making the design decisions involved in producing and packaging their product. The results have been highly professional and extremely well received. If the project continues well and students are happy to continue to maintain production the ultimate aim would be to look towards advertising our products on eBay.
With the right support, the sky is the limit!
