I recently attended the Great Interactions 3 Day course and the Advanced Great Interactions course. I really enjoyed exploring how we, as Practitioners, could improve the way we interact with the people we support.
The Great Interactions training has really helped build my confidence. Learning how to use the ten facilitation skills ensures I am making the most of the time I have with the students and supporting them to achieve their best outcomes. For one person I found myself thinking of new and creative ways that I can present his timetable to support him to be more involved in planning his day. Making these small adjustments to how we do things has had a big impact on this student.
The training has also made me look at lots of situations from a different perspective and adjust my approach accordingly. It is all too easy to get stuck in a way of thinking and the Great Interactions course has made me look at things in a new light.
A highlight for me was recently being filmed supporting one the students and then viewing and reflecting on this at a later date. I could see how I was putting the facilitation skills into practice and also where I could improve in the future.
I am looking forward to the coming weeks with real enthusiasm to put into practice all that I’ve learned and to support our new team with working in this way. In my time at MacIntyre I have learned that there is a real culture of personal development, we can always evolve and improve as individuals to provide better support. I remember when I was younger; I was told that a rolling stone gathers no moss. This sums up MacIntyre for me. Never stand still, and always strive for improvement…… Onwards and upwards!
