At 9.56am I shuffled to Southview Close in my oversized hood and coat, zipped up to my toes like a sleeping bag.
Winter was gnawing at my bones and I had a stack of minutes to type up. But just when I thought all hope was lost, I heard a curious sound beyond the window pane. I opened the door and found Sjack and Patrick jamming at the kitchen table. Sjack was singing while Patrick was on percussion. Both were moving to the music. |
and they clasped hands and swung to the music.
As for me, I found that my morning grumbles had disappeared. Patrick’s excitement had won me over and I was too busy having a good time - dancing round the kitchen table, to even think about my cup of tea or ominous
minutes.
Usually we think of Great Interactions as being led by MacIntyre staff, and although Sjack was facilitating really well it went wider than that, the warmth and enthusiasm between the two men reached out to all those around them. It was almost impossible not to join in because they were having so much fun. Think about what we could achieve if we joined in more with the people we support. Drawing a picture could become a shared canvas or art class, making dinner could become a cooking party, and eating dinner could become a picnic. Remember how much better life is when you share it with other people. |
