The last 7 months have been a real whirlwind. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many remarkable people from all over the country.
There have been so many moments that have made me smile such as watching people dancing in the silent discos at the Roadshows and having the pleasure of getting to know others over a cuppa.
I was lucky enough to attend both the North and South Roadshows. I didn’t really know what to expect but myself and Vicky Nixon were really excited to take part in whatever we could. My first impression was Wow!!!! So many people having fun, making cards, designing bags playing games… the list goes on and on.
I observed countless members of staff showing real warmth towards others. Be it laughing together, joking with each other and generally just having a great time.
At the North Roadshow I was extremely impressed by Carol Groom and her creativity. Carol had actually made a full size Christmas tree from wood. Along with this she had made sticky decorative balls that could be thrown against the tree, what a great idea! So many people enjoyed this throughout the day. Decorations were flying all over the place which added to the excitement.
Again at the North Roadshow I met a charming lady called Mora. We looked around the stands and Mora was having an absolute blast. Mora made sure she had a sticker from each zone she visited along with the small gift or treat. I also chatted with Tina who is Mora’s Shared Lives carer and it was so clear to see the strong bond these two ladies have.
The journey continues to Chesterfield to the Maclntyre Prints Charming Shop. A small but perfectly formed printing shop. Whilst visiting I met Alan who was working in the shop and being supported by Jon. Both gentleman were busy at work but took a quick break to explain all the wonderful items printed at the shop and how the machines work. I must say it all looked rather complicated but great fun. Jon and Alan were both really passionate about their work and it was great to see the positive interactions between them both.
Next stop Bury and Warmersley Road, here I met a gentleman called Joe. Joe had a beautiful house which he proudly showed me. What I also observed was the Great interactions between Joe and Cath the Front Line Manager. Cath actively listened to Joe and gave him space and time needed when communicating.
Final stop the Wirral …. I met Barbara from Cherriton. Barbara was really keen to show me her beautiful home and her photos. Tracy the Front line manager along with Barbara gave me a guided tour around the large house which was really homely. Barbara is a lovely lady and even asked me to try on some of her hair bands.
I would honestly need to write a book if I mentioned all the Great interactions I have observed over the past 7 months. I feel privileged to be working alongside so many caring individuals who go above and beyond each day ensuring people are supported in the right way and have a life that makes sense to them.
I’m looking forward to our continued adventures along this inspiring journey and meeting many more people over the following months.
Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome,
